Pacific Ridge Suits Up for a Cause: Coaches vs. Cancer 2026

Last week, the Pacific Ridge basketball community came together to support the American Cancer Society as part of the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ Coaches vs. Cancer “Suits and Sneakers” Week, demonstrating that the impact of our athletics program extends well beyond the court.

From January 26–28, students led a series of on-campus initiatives, including bake sales and awareness efforts during lunch, engaging the broader community in meaningful conversations around cancer advocacy. The week culminated in Wednesday night’s games against Escondido Charter, where coaches, players, and fans embraced the “Suits and Sneakers” tradition to show solidarity with the cause.

The evening highlighted strong student leadership, with the varsity girls program running concessions, coordinating in-game promotions, and producing videos and messages focused on the mission behind Coaches vs. Cancer. In addition, varsity players visited children at Navy Hospital, delivering signed notes and small gifts—an experience that underscored the purpose behind the fundraising efforts.

A friendly Girls’ Team vs. Boys’ Team fundraising challenge further energized participation across the program. In its first year participating, Pacific Ridge exceeded its $1,000 fundraising goal, with all proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society. The initiative also earned recognition from the San Diego Union-Tribune.
