Winter 2025/2026 Offerings

AI Foundations: Multi-Media - 8 Sessions

Program Dates: Monday afternoons, December 1 - February 9 (excludes winter break and MLK, Jr. holiday)
Time: 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. (1 hr)
Grades: 6 - 9

Students harness the power of AI technology to support and enhance their creativity while building a unique multimedia story, combining original ideas with the power of AI! Along the way, they’ll learn about creative writing, AI ethics, and a range of AI tools. They will fully develop main characters including personality, imagery, and more. They will use AI to create visuals to represent story locations and utilize ChatGPT to enhance their existing story ideas. Students will also be challenged to think critically about AI-generated content, its many uses, and its limitations. This course will examine prompt engineering, AI Chatbots and Agents, AI Image Creation, and the risks and benefits of AI use.

This class is structured like a creative writing class, but every step of the process uses AI tools to prompt creativity and fully realize students’ ideas.

Improv Theater - 8 Sessions

No script? No problem! Using a series of improvisation games and exercises, students will develop not only their confidence and creativity but also their listening and public speaking skills. We will learn how to trust and support our scene partners and work on providing a full story arc within an improvised sketch. The course will culminate with an informal performance.

English for English Language Learners - 8 Sessions

Program Dates: Monday afternoons, December 1 - February 9 (excluding winter break and MLK Jr. holiday)
Time: 3:30 - 4:45 p.m. (1.25 hr)

This course is designed for those who are non-native speakers of English. In this course, students will strengthen their language skills in reading and writing. We will review, practice, and apply grammatical structures that will help students to have a better understanding and fluency in English. We will work on how to revise and apply these new grammatical structures to their current writing assignments in courses such as English and/or History, as well as any other assignments that require writing in English.

Intro to American Sign Language (Session 2) - 9 sessions

Program Dates: Tuesday afternoons, December 2 - February 10 (excludes winter break)
Time: 3:30 - 5 p.m. (1.5 hr)
Grades: 6 - 12

This course is a continuation of our introductory American Sign Language (ASL) class and is designed for students who have already developed proficiency in the ASL alphabet, numbers, common greetings and farewells, exchanging contact information, expressing emotions, and vocabulary related to school life. Students will continue to strengthen their comprehension, production, and interactional skills while expanding their expressive vocabulary and grammatical understanding.

ASL will continue to be taught within the context of everyday life experiences, with an emphasis on building conversational fluency and confidence. Students will explore new thematic units—such as describing people and places, discussing daily routines, and sharing interests and preferences—while deepening their understanding of American Deaf culture and community. Through a variety of interactive activities, students will further develop their expressive, receptive, and cultural skills to increase proficiency in interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational communication.

This course remains an introductory-level class that builds upon the foundational skills from Session 1. It is open to middle and high school students who meet the prerequisite skills listed above.

Woodworking - 9 Sessions

Program Dates: Tuesday Afternoons, December 2 - February 10 (excluding winter break)
Time: 3:15 - 5:15 p.m. (2 hr)
Grades: 6 - 9

Cost: $450 (includes $25 materials fee)

This once-per-week course is designed to make students feel comfortable using hand and power tools to build, repair, and problem-solve. Students will receive instruction in different ways to cut, attach, shape, and finish wood and other materials, while also learning how to handle tools safely. Each student will leave the after-school program with a finished project of their own design and the knowledge of how to use tools to create solutions.

Water Color Painting - 9 Sessions

Program Dates: Tuesday afternoons, December 2 - February 10 (excludes winter break)
Time: 3:30 - 5 p.m. (1.5 hr)
Grades: 6 - 10

Cost: $360 (Includes $25 materials fee)

In this creative and inspiring studio environment, students will explore the multi-dimensional world of watercolor painting. From practicing technical painting skills to expressive abstract work, studio time will develop a deeper understanding of how life skills, empathy, and art intersect. Students will understand foundational techniques such as wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, gradients, and washes. Through peer-led discussions, our group will learn to articulate the creative process and reflect on one another’s work thoughtfully. Finally, the course will advance towards a self-directed project. Towards the course's end, each student will conceptualize and execute a final piece that reflects their individual creative process and style.

Introduction to Python: Story Adventure - 8 Sessions

Program Dates: Wednesday afternoons, December 3 - February 11 (excludes winter break and January 14)
Time: 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. (1 hr)
Grades: 6 - 9

This is a great introductory Python class! Students will be able to employ creative skills to create their own Choose Your Adventure Game! Students use Python to code their own story that changes depending on the choices made while playing. Kids learn computer programming concepts such as input/output, type casting, variables, random number generation, and conditional statements while creating an exciting customized adventure. Each student will leave the class with a basic understanding of one of the most popular programming languages, ready to take on greater challenges.

Looking for a space to learn and connect with other aspiring musicians? Come jam in our after-school PRS rock band! Join us on Thursdays from 3:30-5:00 throughout the winter to dial into creativity and have fun as you learn to play guitar, bass guitar, drums, keyboards, and/or vocals. In this band, we will spend time exploring our instruments, rehearsing, learning songs, and songwriting. Who knows where the music might lead us?
Designed for musicians of all skill levels, this enrichment course is perfect for anyone looking to dive into the world of music and find their own unique voice, all while making some great friends along the way. Middle School Debate Team - 12 Sessions

Be a part of something incredible - the creation of an official Middle School Debate Team!

I’m not arguing with you, I’m just explaining why I’m right! In Middle School Debate, students will work together to research a topic, write an argument for or against a resolution, and present their case. PRS competes in the Orange County Debate League, and this course will prepare students to compete on the PRS Middle School Debate Team in a league tournament in the fall and winter. We will discuss strategies for not only building one's own case but also anticipating counterarguments and responding directly to an opponent's claims. We will also hone our research skills and explore topics with real-world relevance, while practicing good sportsmanship and teamwork. Contact Mx.
