Black Student Union (BSU) Honored at NAACP Youth Council Black History Brunch
Kris Captanis

The BSU was honored at the recent NAACP Youth Council Black History brunch. The mission of the NAACP Youth & College Division shall be to inform youth of the problems affecting African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities; to advance the economic, education, social and political status of African Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities and their harmonious cooperation with other peoples; to stimulate an appreciation of the African Diaspora and other people of color’s contribution to civilization; and to develop an intelligent, effective youth.

The event is student led and included a step show, spoken work presentation, and speeches from former president of NSDC NAACP Youth Council Tiana Patterson as well as Chief of Equity and Access & San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Cherina Betters, who was the keynote speaker. Her speech was a call to action to remember black history and to lean on the greater community to execute the mission. She highlighted togetherness and supporting youth as key to bring the movement forward. Congratulations to all those who were involved and honored!
