52 Weeks of Service at PRS

52 Weeks of Service at PRS
PRS - Service Learning

One of the cornerstones of the Pacific Ridge experience is our focus on service learning — offering regular opportunities to serve the community, teaching core ethical principles, and inspiring students to approach the world with compassion and the empowerment to make lasting change.

Service Learning on campus is defined by student-directed action, with students learning to take the lead on new and continued projects, driving change through passion, and addressing the needs of their community.

Inspired by our students’ initiatives, Pacific Ridge is launching 52 Weeks of Service—a way for our entire school community to get involved, demonstrating that our core value of caring for the community is embraced by every member of our community, from students, to teachers, and parents to alumni.

“Service learning is an opportunity for students to step out of the academic checklist and develop who they want to be in their communities, and how both students and adults on campus can identify the needs of that community and collaborate with local partners. Service Learning is as much about giving back as it is discovering what is gained when we participate.” – Germaine Jackson, Director of Service Learning

This year, we encourage PRS families, faculty, staff, board members, and students to form small groups to engage in community service work. Our goal is to complete 52 projects to reflect the 52 weeks of the year. One small service, each week, can make a meaningful impact across San Diego County.

Our campus currently supports 30 service projects on campus, which will be showcased during Fall Fest on October 25. The Parents Association hosts this celebrated annual event, where our parent volunteers, upper school clubs and service learning groups, and middle school students have been hard at work creating an inviting, joyful Fall Fest. This event is truly a showcase of our school and community. Run by the Parents Association, supported by staff and faculty, and highlighting our students and their good work, the event brings members of our community together from across all grades and inspires us all to show up through service in our communities.

How It Works:
• Gather a group and choose a service project anywhere in San Diego.
• Bring your own idea or select from a list of opportunities generated by PRS families and      community partners.
• Designate a leader to coordinate dates and details.
