PhotoScience Students Give Camera Assembly A Shot

Last week, middle school students in PhotoScience examined the science of digital photography from the inside out.
The group assembled Bigshot cameras, do-it-yourself photo assembly kits designed for experiential learning. While putting together the camera's gears, axles, modules and electronics, students gained insight into various science and engineering concepts. For example, students learned how mechanical energy (turning a dynamo on a hand crank) can be turned in to electric potential energy stored in a battery. When the cameras were assembled, students practiced using the relatively simple machines to make beautiful artwork.
