New Ocean Blue Spreads the Word About the Perils of Plastic

On Tuesday, Upper School Service Learning Group New Ocean Blue visited Carrillo Elementary School to teach second-grade students about the havoc plastic pollution is wreaking on the Earth's marine ecosystems
The presentation included information about the life cycle of plastic, the ways plastic endangers fish and mammals, and, most importantly, what students can do to reduce their personal impact. The second graders eagerly passed around a jar of "goop" from the Great Pacific garbage patch, shared stories about pollution they'd seen at local beaches, and vowed to do their part by reducing, reusing, and recycling.
