Life Science Meets Computer Science

Last week, 7th-grade students combined Life Science with simple computer science to create predictive, dichotomous key projects
Students collected flowers, twigs, leaves, and insects, and used SCRATCH, a free educational programming language developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab, to form a script based on each item's physical identifiers. By matching given characteristics, the finished programs were able to use the process of elimination to effectively identify whichever natural item the user had in mind.
