Kenyan Educator, Journalist & Author Discuss the Power of Education
For young women living in one of the largest slums in the world, Kibera, Kenya, a future without an education is bleak and uncertain. On Friday during Community Life, Kibera Girls Soccer Academy (KGSA) Program Director Richard Teka spoke about the importance of education and its role in ending the cycle of poverty. He was accompanied by Asha Jaffar, an alumna of the school who is now an award-winning journalist, and Ellie Roscher, an American author who recently wrote a book about the school. Service learning group Global Vantage collaborates with KGSA on Global Vantage Magazine. Former Global Vantage student-leader Dillon Lerach '13 flew in from New York, where he recently graduated from Columbia University, to reconnect with Asha and Richard.
