Local government has the largest impact on its constituents compared to federal and state governments, according to Encinitas Mayor Catherine Blakespear. On May 2, she spoke to students about her path to becoming mayor and what students can do to get involved. She also talked about tough issues the city is facing, such as homelessness and a controversial bike plan known as the rail trail. Students were interested in her insights on dealing with different constituent groups and having civil conversations on polarizing topics. She was hosted by the new Feminists United group.
