Ninth graders visited the Carlsbad Fire Department, men's shelter La Posada de Guadalupe, the Special Olympics Committee, and other North County partners to learn how young people can be of service in the local community. Students prepared essential questions based on their research and interviewed professionals at these non-profit and government organizations. Through critical-thinking and design-thinking workshops, students will take what they learned and practice solving a specific challenge faced by their local partner. The 9th-grade Service Learning Incubator allows students to put their informed ideas into action and preview the impact they can have in upper school service groups. Half way into the school year, they'll choose to continue with their new projects or join an existing group.
