Summer Reading

Every student entering middle school in August is asked to do some reading over the summer. This is done to help keep students engaged in reading and stories, to introduce a topic or theme that will be important in the school year, and to have a starting place to dig into some content skills and Harkness discussions. This also allows teachers to get to know their students and see how they think and work on a shared topic and text. Please review the Summer Reading Lists below and make a plan for the reading over the next two months.

Supply List

Below you will find a basic list of supplies that are needed for all students, including technology needs like a laptop and a calculator. In July, families will receive course schedules and will be able to order course-specific books from MBS and other sites. Students will also be given specific instructions for supplies needed (beyond the basics listed below) in their classes during the first week of school.

Daily Schedule Information

The rotating six-day schedule allows for all classes to be spread out through the morning and afternoon. We also have co-curricular programs like clubs, advisory, and purpose periods that will be tied to the rotation instead of days of the week, ensuring that all are run equally regardless of whether we have a three, four, or five-day week. This schedule may be overwhelming at first glance but students will learn the flow of the rotation quickly. All students will be given a physical planner for the year that reflects our new schedule and holidays.
