Extension courses are open to both Pacific Ridge students and students from other schools.

Time: 3:15-3:45 p.m. and 3:50-4:20 p.m.
Grade levels: 
Minimum of 2 students enrolled in each class
Fee: $290 for 8-week course

Course Description

Have you always wanted to learn how to play the piano? Perhaps you already play but want to improve your existing skills. This is the class for you! In this class, students will learn from professional pianist Ryan Crosthwaite in a fun, fast paced, and enjoyable approach to piano playing. Complete beginners and accomplished pianists alike will benefit from Ryan’s friendly and easy-going teaching methodology, while feeling pushed musically and technically to progress to the next level of playing. Topics covered include fundamentals of music such as rhythm, melody, harmony, pitch, tone, phrasing, aural skill development, and many others! All books and classroom materials will be provided.

About the Instructor

Ryan Crosthwaite is a local professional pianist who currently is working on his Master’s degree in Piano Performance at San Diego State University. He’s taught at SDSU for nearly 2 years as an instructor for their class-piano program, which is essentially group piano lessons for adults. As a performer, Ryan competed in the Semper Music Festival in Italy in 2016 in a competition that featured some of the best instrumentalists in the world. For the past 7 years, Ryan has made a living working for himself as an educator, accompanist, and composer. He is best described as gentle but firm in his approach to teaching the piano and he enjoys encouraging his students to reach their highest potential.
