Beauty and the Beast, Jr.!

A cast of middle school students will rehearse and stage a one-hour musical (Beauty and the Beast, Jr.) to be performed on May 15-16 at the Avo Playhouse in Vista. Participants will collaborate with the director and fellow cast members to create a memorable piece of theater to be enjoyed by friends, family and the entire Pacific Ridge community. No prior theater experience is necessary, and no willing cast member will be turned away.

Dates: Rehearsals take place on weekdays from January 13 through May 14; performances will take place on May 15-16 at 7:00 p.m. at the Avo Playhouse in Vista.
Time: 3:15 - 5:15 p.m.
Ages: Grades 5-8

Cost: Free for Pacific Ridge students, $100 for students not enrolled at Pacific Ridge

All students will need to attend group auditions on Tuesday, Jan 14 at 3:00-5:15 p.m. Pacific Ridge students, please meet in the choir room. Outside students, please go to the receptionist to ask directions to the choir room, A201. Girls and boys will meet with Mrs Hansen and Mr Smith. Everyone will have a chance to sing and act. We will have a snack for you!
Call backs are scheduled for Thursday, January 16, 3:15-5:15 p.m. Please leave this time open in your schedule; you will be notified by Wednesday, January 15 if you are called back.

PARENTS:  We will hold an informational meeting on Saturday, January 18 at 9:00 a.m. in the choir room. Please plan to attend this important and mandatory meeting for all cast members and their parents.
Students will be notified of their role by Sunday, Jan 19. Everyone will have a spot in the show!

About the Instructor

Marko Smith has written and directed thirteen original plays for young actors, including last year's PRS Seventh Grade Class Play, "The Apple of Discord". He loves to take issues and themes that live inside of his cast members and weave them into poetic adaptations of classic tales. Mr. Smith has been a teacher for over twenty years in Waldorf Schools. He is a musician who has had a long career writing, recording and performing original material with sundry ensembles, and has worked to help students to tap their inner muse and create original works. He teaches private lessons out of his home in Leucadia and at the Rios Music Project in Carlsbad.
