Middle School Play

Description of the class: A cast of middle school students will rehearse and stage a full length comedy to be performed on October 24. Participants will be asked to cooperate with the director, student director and fellow casts members to create a memorable work of art to be enjoyed by friends, family and the entire Pacific Ridge community. No prior theater experience is necessary, and no willing cast member will be turned away. Major speaking and acting roles will be assigned to ambitious and dedicated students who are committed to the rehearsal schedule, performance date, and who are able to memorize lines at home. Minor roles will be awarded to students who wish to have fun and experience the joy of working together as a team. It is my hope that the cast members will form new friendships, have fun, and learn the skills required to stand upon the stage and deliver convincing and entertaining performances. The play will be determined by the number of students who participate and will be announced at the first rehearsal.
Dates: Rehearsals take place from September 10 - October 23 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; the performance will take place on October 24 at 7:00 p.m.
Time: 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.
Ages: Grades 6-8
Instructor: Marko Smith
Cost: Free for Pacific Ridge students, $100 for students not enrolled at Pacific Ridge
Note: This course is open to Pacific Ridge School students and students from other schools.
Instructor: Marko Smith

About the Instructor

Marko Smith has written and directed thirteen original plays for young actors, including last year's PRS Seventh Grade Class Play, "The Apple of Discord". He loves to take issues and themes that live inside of his cast members and weave them into poetic adaptations of classic tales. Mr. Smith has been a teacher for over twenty years in Waldorf Schools. He is a musician who has had a long career writing, recording and performing original material with sundry ensembles, and has worked to help students to tap their inner muse and create original works. He teaches private lessons out of his home in Leucadia and at the Rios Music Project in Carlsbad.
